FCVC enjoys early successes on the court
The 2014-2015 OVA season has gotten underway with lots of early success for the teams representing the Forest City Volleyball Club. The Girls 15U – Green team is currently ranked second in Ontario at the 15U level, and is solidly in the top 15 in Ontario playing up in the 16U age level. The Boys 15U – Green team, meanwhile, continues to rise in the rankings, jumping into the top 12 in the province at their age group.
The members of the Girls 18U – Green team hope to finish off their exceptional youth careers this season and continue their tradition of excellence. National champions at 16U and provincial champions at 17U, the team has added depth at several positions this year, and is looking to contend for provincial and national medals this April and May, before embarking on new volleyball adventures at the post-secondary level.
In all, FCVC is fielding 17 teams this season, from 12U to 18U. At the younger ages, teams are balanced to ensure maximal development for all players, and coaches are reducing early specialization per the Long-Term Athlete Development model. The emphasis is on skill development and solid teamwork, and the results have been fantastic.
Club digs deep for Sock Drive
FCVC teams participated in a Christmas Sock Drive for Mission Services, competing to see which team could collect the most pairs of socks. Almost 1,500 pairs in total were donated, with the Girls 13U group collecting over 450! Congratulations and thank you to all FCVC members for digging deep for Mission Services.
