Round One Boxing held its first club show in three years at Cowboys Ranch on Saturday Sept. 28, and the event was a resounding success. The Fall Classic featured eight amateur boxing matches, which showcased the talent of seven Round One students as well as competitors from other Ontario clubs from Windsor to Toronto.

Close to 300 spectators came out to support the local athletes, leaving the organizers very pleased with the turnout. Round One appreciates the support of the athlete’s friends and families, as well as the boxing enthusiasts that showed up to cheer on the competition.

The event provided an opportunity for a number of Round One’s students to compete for the first time, including Ashley Jeans, Melissa Burt, Bry Bry Baratta and Jeff Carnahan. Jerrica Mitchell and Jordan Fish, meanwhile, also experienced their first boxing bouts (both had previous kickboxing experience). Alicia Champagne, the team veteran, competed for the 12th time.

The coaches of Round One could not be happier with the result, which included five wins and two very closely contested matches. And as Bob Wilcox, one of the Round One coaches would say, there is no loser. The ‘L’ stands for learning!
