It was a warm evening last October when the U13 London Gold Medal Basketball team was born. A group of only eight girls came together to form a team in a club which is well known for its strong boys programs. All but one girl had played organized basketball in the past. This first year team soon became known as the ‘Elite 8’ throughout Ontario Basketball due to their suffocating pressure defense and strong fundamental play.

After earning silver medals in two tournaments this season, they finally struck gold at the Provincial Championships hosted in Windsor, Ontario on April 15-17. The ‘Elite 8’ went 3-0 in round robin play, beating teams from Vaughan, Ottawa, and Guelph. They won the Gold Medal game versus the Ancaster Magic, 48-35, played at Windsor Herman Secondary School.

The team is looking forward to working on their fundamentals this off-season and coming back together even stronger next season. For more information on the programs and summer camps that Gold Medal Basketball has to offer, check out our website.
