No one can deny Daymon Blackport’s passion for soccer. Born and raised in London, he’s playing the sport for 11 of his 16 years. He started out on defense, but has been a striker/winger/attacking midfielder for the past three seasons.
This year, he played for the North London Soccer Club U16 OYSL team, coached by Jeff Cambridge. He led the team with 11 goals and assisted on five others in just 14 games. He was also a member of the Ontario Soccer Association U16 provincial team.
The past summer was a particularly busy one for Daymon. In addition to his OYSL games and training, he worked as a Junior Counsellor at the John Hatch sports camp, and attended soccer ID camps at Michigan State University, State of New York University at Buffalo, and Bowling Green State University. He also participated in a training session with the FC London PDL team. But the highlight of Daymon’s summer was the Canada Games. After two days of tryouts in Vaughan, three days at the University of Toronto, and four days at the University of Guelph, he was selected to play for the men’s team (U18) representing Ontario.
Held once every four years, the Canada Summer Games is a prestigious event. Daymon spent a week in Sherbrooke, Quebec, staying at the athletes’ village and playing in all five games, starting two of them and scoring a pair of penalty kicks to help Team Ontario bring home the bronze medal.
Daymon attends Sir Frederick Banting Secondary School, where he has been an honours student for the past two years. In addition to playing for the Banting Broncos soccer team, he’s also a member of the golf team.
Off the pitch, Daymon volunteers as a Teen Ambassador for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), and has worked with ‘I Challenge Diabetes,’ a non-profit organization that helps young diabetics to stay active in sports.
