Labatt Park will be awash in colours on July 11, as teams from Eager Beaver Baseball and other London and area leagues gather to participate in an all-star event held in honour of Frank Colman, one of the founders of EBBA. Colman played for the Yankees and other professional baseball teams during his career. The annual event has grown from a small exhibition of EBBA players to an all-day, all-star event for over 250 players from 10 different leagues.
The day begins at 9am when over 100 EBBA t-ball players will take the field to show off their skills at challenge stations and to scrimmage on the big diamond. The Rookie division then takes over at noon to play an all-star game between teams comprised of teammate-selected players from EBBA and neighbouring leagues. The Mosquito division follows at 2pm, the PeeWee division at 4pm, the Bantam division at 6pm, and then the day ends with the Midget division game at 8pm.
“It’s wonderful to see players from all the different leagues come together to play as a team,” said event organizer Kelly Terry.
Besides excitement on the field, there will be door prizes, 50/50 draws and concessions all day long. There will also be a live announcer for all games, including T-ball. Frank Colman’s great-grandson will throw out the first pitch at noon. Everyone is welcome, and coaches and players are admitted free. There is a $2.00 admission charge for spectators. EBBA invites you to come out and see neighbourhood baseball at its finest!
