A group of Dance Extreme competitive dancers had the opportunity in July to compete (and win!) at the Toronto International Youth Dance Festival at Nathan Phillips Square

Dance Extreme’s competitive team season runs from late February to the end of May, during which most dancers compete in a minimum of three competitions – and up to a maximum of five. Occasionally, our whole team will participate in a National or Finals competition to end off our season, and these usually take place in July. Even though our season finishes with the school calendar, our students and teachers are always looking for additional opportunities to participate in other competitions and performances.

During this past July, five Dance Extreme competitive dancers took to Nathan Phillips Square in Toronto’s downtown core to compete at the Toronto International Youth Dance Festival. The piece, ‘On The Horizon,’ choreographed by Ms. Rebecca Zizek (rehearsal assistant Ms. Kiana Simler-Fuoco) took home 1st place overall in the whole competition!

Dancers Isabela Filice, Ewan Hartman, Kayla Cohen, Kiera Hunter and Julia Beaton were thrilled to take part in this International dance festival. Per its website, the Toronto International Youth Dance Festival is a ‘multi-cultural celebration of culture and diversity through the art of dance. Started by the Canada International Dance Culture Association in 2014 in the heart of Toronto, it serves as a medium to promote, develop and exchange knowledge between all people of all background. More importantly, it is an opportunity for children to express themselves while learning to be a part of this growing family that enriches us all.’

Dance Extreme is very proud of all its dancers, and we are thrilled that this team was able to compete with such success, sharing their love of dance with an international audience.
