On June 2, if you stopped by Mornington Park, you witnessed one of the busiest days of baseball in the City of London. For the Eager Beaver Baseball Association, it was Opening Day – with over 350 kids coming through the park.
Kids as young as 4 years old up to 13 all took the field that day. It was a busy event, and there was an excitement in the air. The concession stand was open, and burgers and hot dogs were served. EBBA sold old gear at cheap prices to clear out their storage and help families looking for a deal.
Sports One Photography set up a tent and was on hand to take team photos of all the teams, and any parent interested was able to get an individual photo of their child and order some baseball photo keepsakes. It was the kind of community gathering that you might expect to see in Pleasantville Movie City – but it happened right here in London!
The day marked the start of the baseball season for the kids. There will be games or practices at Mornington Park almost every day of the week for the next two months, as well as countless games throughout the city featuring EBBA teams. The memories created this summer will last a lifetime for the children.
If you were not a part of Opening Day this year, we hope to see you out there next season! EBBA runs programs from Little Sluggers (4 & 5-year-olds) to Juniors (19 to 22-year-olds).
