Middlesex Swimming was well-represented at the Speedo Eastern Nationals from April 12-15 in Windsor, Ontario. More than 125 teams from across eastern Canada competed in the event, and included amongst the large field of athletes who qualified for the meet were four Middlesex swimmers.
On the girls side, Kathryn Ivanov, 14, placed 12th and 19th, respectively, in the 50m breaststroke and 100m breaststroke events, while 15-year-old Bronwyn MacLeod finished 45th in the 50m backstroke. On the boys side, Quinn Nolan, 16, was 39th in the 200m breaststroke event, while 17-year-old Cameron Teasdale placed 16th in 100m breaststroke, 17th in 200m breaststroke, and 22nd in 50m breaststroke.
Meanwhile, the Middlesex Swimming Club was also active on the water polo side, as the team’s U14 boys squad earned a fourth-place finish at the Ontario Water Polo Championships in Scarborough, Ontario in mid-April, in the process qualifying for a spot at Nationals.
In early May, the Club will compete at the Ontario Masters Provincial Championships (May 4-6 in Barrie, Ontario), an event the Middlesex women won in 2017. Stay tuned to the next issue of SportsXpress to find out how all the Middlesex swimmers fared at this year’s meet.
