The St. Thomas Soccer Club has always held the belief that the best growth comes from within. It was with that mindset that they appointed Phil Trueman as the new Club Head Coach for 2016. Phil worked with the YC program in 2015 as a Technical Coach, helping to implement the technical plan developed by Ian McClurg. Phil is very eager to continue to help the program grow in his new role as Club Head Coach.
“STSC is a blank canvas, as far as I’m concerned,” Trueman said. “We have a huge opportunity to advance the game, both locally and nationally, by developing coaching standards at the grassroots level of the game. I feel my role is to mentor our excellent staff of coaches to develop their skills through a better understanding of the building blocks of the game. I also believe my own personal coaching development is crucial to this.”
The Club Head Coach role is one that Phil has grown into since getting involved with the STSC following his emigration from the UK in 2010. He held a few coaching positions within the club, as well as developed and implemented the current Keeper Training offered. Phil currently holds an OSA B licence, a Diploma in Goalkeeping, plus many UK qualifications. All that being said, Phil’s experience is not limited to his time with STSC.
“I have lifetime involvement in soccer dating back to a father who was a professional player in England, an uncle who was a top semi-pro player, as was my brother, and a son who played for Southampton in the BPL until his career was ended prematurely by injury.”
With that type of resume, as well as his inherent passion for the game, the STSC was more than pleased to name Phil Trueman as their Club Head Coach. Phil really is a ‘True Man of Soccer’ in the area.
