London Aquatic Club swimmers finished their busy summer competition season with some tremendous results. In July, the very successful Canadian PanAm Games team did their final staging camp here in the Forest City, and the entire team, swimmers and coaches alike, were very impressed by the facilities, support and warm welcome they received. From London, the team moved directly into the Athletes Village in Toronto and proceeded to have one of the most successful major international meets for a Canadian team in recent memory.

On the heels of rubbing shoulders with Canada’s top swimmers for those few days in July, six LAC swimmers performed at the Canadian Age Group Championships in Quebec City, with 15-year-olds Jessica Allen and Maggie MacNeil both racing to national titles. The following week, LAC was represented by four swimmers at the Senior National Championships in Pointe Claire, Quebec.

Adam Purdy and Devin Gotell, both experienced veterans on the national and international Paralympic swim scene, competed at the ParaPanAm Games in mid-August, both winning medals in multiple events and helping the Canadian team to its biggest medal haul ever at this event. Maggie MacNeil concluded one of LAC’s busiest summer seasons ever by travelling to Singapore as part of Canada’s 19-member team for the World Junior Championships.

LAC’s 2015-16 season is already underway, with its 250+ swimmers ranging in age from 6-18 churning up the waters at various city facilities, primary among them the Canada Games Aquatic Centre. The club eagerly accepts new swimmers, whether experienced or not, and provides free, no-obligation two-week trials for those who have perhaps been inspired by Canada’s great Pan American Games Results.
