The Forest City Diving Club opened its 2015/2016 competitive season by attending an Internationally recognized dive meet in Montreal, Que. FCDC brought home three medals, as Joshua won a gold medal on the 3m, while Faith captured two bronze medals (1m and 3m).
Anika, Camryn, Julia and Katelyn, meanwhile, all placed top 12 in groups with over 20 competitors. Overall, it was a very successful event. As we move into the New Year, many of our divers have been invited to training camps. The purpose of these camps is to allow the divers complete focus without distraction to work on skills to improve their diving. Coaches are also invited to learn various techniques to help progress their athletes towards becoming elite divers.
Katelyn has been invited to attend a Dive Canada High Performance Training Camp in Montreal, Que. As well, five divers (Al’x, Joshua, Faith, Anika and Camryn) will head to Toronto for the Canada Games training camp which takes place in Winnipeg, 2017.
This year, a unique opportunity has arisen for some of the FCDC athletes. Three diving clubs in Canada have been invited to attend a training and competition camp in Shenzhen, China. CAMO, Dive Calgary and FCDC, each with a coach and six divers, will embark on a two-week training camp where they will learn from elite Chinese coaches, experience culture and make new friends.
Winter session has started, and registrations are still open. If you have a child who is interested in diving, consider signing up for a learn to dive session or a week of camp during March Break. FCDC will host its Invitational dive meet on February 27-28. Please come and be a spectator, it may spark a new passion! Visit us at www.forestcitydiving.com.
