Forest City Diving Club (FCDC) has seen many successes over the years. Most recently, two of our divers represented Canada at the 2019 Junior Pan Am games in Santiago, Chile. Katelyn Fung competed in four events and earned four podium finishes, while Joshua Inglis also received a medal in his favourite event – 3m Synchro. FCDC is extremely proud of our divers as they achieve their personal goals with success.
This season, we welcome Jorge Pupo Carballo to our full-time coaching staff. Jorge comes to us from Havana, Cuba where he was an elite diver representing Cuba with many podium finishes at international competitions, including the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. His diving career and experience has made him a great addition to our club – and to Canada, where he can continue his work with talented athletes to achieve their dreams. This past summer, Jorge and his wife, Inima, welcomed a baby boy to their family.
New to our FCDC competitive stream is the Rising Stars Program. Athletes were chosen for this new and exciting program from talent ID of our Learn to Dive (LTD) athletes. A tryout was also held for children from other sport disciplines as part of the selection process. The goal of the program is to develop the proper foundation in body mechanics while being active in a fun and stimulating environment. This will improve dive ability and progress the athletes towards our competitive program.
Don’t aspire to be a competitive athlete? FCDC offers a recreational diving program as well, where no skills are required except the ability to swim comfortably in deep water. Ages 5 and up (including adult) programs are available. Our LTD staff are certified instructors through Dive Ontario and have their NLS certification as well (it helps that they are also current or former dive athletes of FCDC). This program is overseen by our full-time coaches, who provide feedback to help our young coaches improve. To showcase their skills, two mini meets are held twice a year.
