London Synchro Club got off to a great start for the competitive year in 2015 with back-to-back meets held in January. Right away, it was clear the hard work and long hours of training have certainly paid off!

The Lisa Alexander Figures meet was held from January 16-18 at the new Pan Am Pool in Markham. The meet brings Synchro Clubs together from Western, Central and Northern Ontario. The meet focuses on the swimmers’ technical skills, and each competitor is judged individually on their technique. Our senior (16-20) athlete, Alyssa Gosling, represented LSC with 1st place finish, while her teammate, Lauren LeBer, placed 5th. In the 11-12 category, Ioanna Hopper, a seasoned synchro swimmer at only 11 years of age, placed 3rd in a field of 150 swimmers. Meanwhile, many other LSC athletes exceeded their personal bests and represented London Synchro with pride. We are proud of our swimmers and their continued success.

The following week, LSC was back in Toronto at the Etobicoke Olympium in the Waterloo Invitational. The meet is open to all clubs across Ontario and is the first opportunity for clubs to showcase and compete in team events. Once again, London Synchro Club was a force to be reckoned with. Two first-place finishes included one for our 16-20 team and one for our 13 year-old team. For the first year, LSC has a Combo Team, which consists of a team event with both solo aspects and duets within the routine. LSC placed 2nd in this event. In the duet category, our 11-12 girls (Ioanna Hopper and Abigail Young) tied for 6th place with Kitchener-Waterloo, and our 13-15 duet team (Bridget Koza and Millie Sweet-Boulay) placed 4th. Both categories had our girls in draws of 15 competitive duet teams. This is an exceptional achievement and your hard work really shows!

The club is moving on to the West Regional Championships at Laurier University in March, and we wish all the athletes much success as they fine-tune their routines and skills.

There is no better time to see LSC and the unique athletic sport of Synchronized Swimming. Please join us on March 1 for our Winter Water show. Entrance is by donation at the Canada Games Aquatic Centre.
