The sun is shining, the birds are chirping, and summer is finally upon us! For many of our teams, players and regular visitors, the summer months are a chance to get outside and on the diamond, the pitch, the gridiron, and more!
While our hours at Centrefield Sports are reduced for the months of June, July and August, so too are our rates, and we are now officially into our summer prices, with costs from the winter all slashed in half or more to accommodate your indoor needs whenever possible. Feel free to give us a call when you want to get ready before your next tournament, or just drop by during our open hours and we will find you a spot!
Our instructors are also heading outdoors, with former major leaguers, Olympians and professional baseball players leading three different camps throughout the summer at the Byron Optimist Complex. There is still room to sign up your young player, so head to our website or give us a call so we can fit them in!
Our first outdoor summer camp will run from July 9 to 13, the second from July 30 to August 3, and the final camp (a four-day event) from August 13 to 16. We have full-day, full-week, single day, and half-day options to accommodate your summer schedule.
With the Great Lake Canadians program – one that calls its indoor home Centrefield Sports – also hitting the diamonds and taking its talents outside, the organization is proud to announce that two of its players were selected in Major League Baseball’s first-year player draft in early June.
Great Lake graduate Michael Brettell was selected in the 15th round by the St. Louis Cardinals out of Central Michigan University, and the right-hander is off to begin his professional career with the Johnson City Cardinals. Current Canadians hurler Eric Cerantola was chosen in the 30th round by the Tampa Bay Rays and will fulfill his commitment to Mississippi State University. The two GLC players were among just 19 Canadians selected in this year’s draft.
Amid the summer excitement, don’t forget to plan your off-season training early, and reach out to our staff at Centrefield regarding rentals. The facility will fill up incredibly quickly through the fall and winter months, and we would like to accommodate your needs! It’s never too early to get your reservations in, and we look forward to having you!
