It was a year full of highlights for London Badgers baseball, one of the most accomplished programs in the country. In 2017 alone, the Badgers won a Major Peewee ICBA league championship, a Minor Bantam AAA OBA championship, and, impressively, came away with the Major Midget 18U Baseball Canada national championship trophy – an event hosted on home soil in London.
The Badgers also hosted the LDBA Minor Mosquito playoffs, the Premier League of Ontario 16U playoffs, and over two weekends played host to a 129-team tournament. Meanwhile, the program was awarded the Baseball Canada Midget National Championships again for 2019 and 2020.
On an individual level, Will Pollard was selected to the Ontario Youth Team and played in the Canada Summer Games, Zack Banks earned a scholarship to Lake Michigan College, and Tyler D’Alessandro was awarded a scholarship to Salem International University. Carson Lumley, meanwhile, won a 13U National Championship with North York while being named Player of the Game twice and Defensive Player of the Tournament. At the end of the season, the youngster was named Baseball Ontario Youth Player of the Year.
Finally, the club even made an impact on the international stage, as the program organized a spring trip to Cuba for nearly 100 players and parents, and distributed 20 bags of baseball equipment to Cuban players, coaches and the community at large.
