The London Minor Football Association (LMFA) and Windsor Minor Football met again this year at Citywide Park in London for the 2017 Friendship Bowls (the seventh annual event). On Grey Cup Sunday, tykes (9 and under), atoms (age 10-11) and peewees (age 12-13) from the two leagues met on the field and then enjoyed a team dinner together.

Both leagues choose their best players in each age group and then have two to three weeks to get their teams ready to play. Players come together in that short time, led by all-star coaching staffs. Playing in this game is a reward for the players who worked hard and excelled during the season.

Current WMFA president Paul Horoky sees the continued success of the games as a lasting tradition of goodwill and sportsmanship which was started by former president Mike Leach. Leach, who passed away earlier this year, was instrumental in making the Friendship Bowls an annual event that kids on both sides look forward to after their seasons come to a close.

This year, the London all-stars swept all three games for the first time ever. The tykes won 32-8 for their third straight win. The atoms won for the first time ever, 30-12, pulling away after leading 6-0 at half. And the peewees won for the first time in three years by a 28-16 score.

LMFA is a house league that provides all players aged 7 to 13, regardless of experience or ability, the chance to join a team, make friends, stay active, and learn teamwork. Once again, the LMFA will host a very popular indoor skills camp every week at Centrefield Sports from January 12 to March 16, 2018.
