Middlesex Masters swimmer Terri MacDougall competed at the Pan Pacific Masters Games in Gold Coast, Australia from November 4-6, 2016, and the talented swimmer set a new Games swimming record in the 100m breaststroke in the 50-54 age category with a time of 37.56 seconds.
MacDougall swam four races in all. In the Long Course Meters 50m freestyle, she posted a time of 30.10 seconds, just missing matching an Ontario record (30.08). In the LCM 100m breaststroke, MacDougall did achieve a new Ontario record for the 50-54 age group, posting a time of 1:24.16 (the Canadian record is 1:23.67). In the LCM 200m breaststroke, she also set a new Ontario record, finishing in a time of 3:10.50.
Approximately 12,000 participants from all over the world gathered in Gold Coast for the Pan Pacific Masters Games, a multi-sport event that has stamped itself on the calendar at the beginning of November every two years. More than 40 sports are on the program, with team sports including softball, touch football, soccer, basketball and baseball, and individual sports ranging from swimming, athletics, tennis and archery.
The slogan of the Games is ‘Play it, Live it, Love it!’ which encapsulates its competitive, participatory and social environment. The Gold Coast Convention & Exhibition Centre was the official Games Village for the event, and it featured live nightly entertainment, a sports expo, fully catered hospitality and a venue for the Games’ sportspeople to socialize, meet up and enjoy the camaraderie for which the event is renowned.
