Ontario Lacrosse Association Championships

The London Blue Devil Midget boys won the 2016 Ontario Lacrosse Association’s Provincial Midget ‘B’ Championship! During the very hot August weekend in Whitby, the team dominated their competition (Huntsville, Sarnia, Six Nations 2, St. Catharines, Welland, and the defending champions, Niagara), outscoring their opponents 40-16 over six games. Owen Dew allowed just one goal in each of the semi-final and final games, earning him the MVP award.

In addition to the Provincial Championship, team highlights this season included a 14-game unbeaten streak, upending Team Nova Scotia 6-1 in tournament play, and winning the Zone 7 Midget Championship. Especially for the graduating players, nothing can compare to achieving their first ever provincial box medal in the last game of their minor careers!

The Blue Devil ladies also brought home Provincial hardware. The Bantam and Intermediate girls teams both advanced to their respective ‘B’ division championship games and earned silver medals in very tight one-goal finals.

Other teams that moved on to the Ontario Lacrosse playoff rounds included Tyke 1 and Novice 1, who both reached the ‘B’ semifinals, and the young Tyke 2s, who made it to their ‘E’ quarterfinal. The Bantam 1 team represented London at the ‘A’ division provincial qualifiers. A total of 10 London teams participated at the Ontario Lacrosse Festival, the largest annual youth lacrosse event in North America.

National Lacrosse Championships of Canada

• Simeon Powless: Peewee Finalist with Team First Nations
