The midway point of the 2016 outdoor Eurostar season was July 30, and the year had already brought great excitement as well as some excellent results for our program. All of our teams finished the first half of the year with some very good performances. Our U17, U14 and U13 teams had particularly strong results and were trending well heading into the SAAC fall season, which started on August 1.
Earlier in July, Eurostar played host to several coaches from the S.S. Lazio Academy, facilitating a one-week soccer camp at Fanshawe College. With over 120 participants, the coaches provided a fun, unique and challenging experience for all participants. Joining them this year was a FIFA agent from Italy who represented several Italian football academies and spent the week observing various players. Many of our players received excellent feedback for their skill on the field, and several will be monitored ongoing for future opportunities.
Some additional mid-summer highlights from Eurostar…
• Fifteen of our U16/17 players visited Niagara University in July to meet the Coach Bill Boyle and learn more about the school. Coach Boyle spent some time with the players to help them understand the scholarship recruitment process.
• The Eurostar U13 team participated in the Rush Kickoff Classic held in Michigan August 5-7.
• Four senior players were invited to an international academy in Spain through the month of August. While there, the players participated in training as well as a pair of international tournaments.
