Significant changes to the structure of the Forest City Diving Club (FCDC) over the past year did not faze the team spirit nor the club’s coaching ability. Decreasing from two High Performance Coaches to one had increased pressures on our coach to maintain performance levels. But as FCDC moves toward the end of its competitive season, we are proud to announce that all 10 of our Tier 1 divers have qualified to attend their respective Jr. Speedo Development/Elite Nationals in Montreal, Que and Winnipeg, MB in July.

At the Summer Provincial Championships held in London, ON in May, 22 personal best scores were achieved, two season best scores were posted, and three divers received the Outstanding Diver Award in their age category (Girls A – Faith Zacharias, Girls B – Camryn Hughes, Girls C – Katelyn Fung). FCDC coach Luda Zakharenko, meanwhile, was named Outstanding Coach.

Although the season is coming to an end for most, eight divers were selected to attend the 2016 Ontario Summer Games taking place in Mississauga, ON, August 11-14. Tier 1/2 divers (Camryn, Nathan, Julia, Katelyn, Nigel, Abbigail H, Abbie W, and Alexa) will compete at the Etobicoke Olympium against their peers from across Ontario in an event that occurs only during the Summer Olympic year. FCDC wishes all of its divers the best of luck in their athletic endeavours.

Our summer camp programs are filling up quickly. Children aged 6 to 12 are taught safety in a pool setting, and the fundamental basics of diving, all while having fun, making new friends, and enjoying their summer holidays. If they wish to learn on a more regular basis, schedules will be posted in early August for ‘Learn to Dive’ progression classes.
