For Ricardo Alvarez, it’s all about volleyball. And it always has been. In Columbia, Alvarez played on a provincial team and in university, and then transitioned into a coach in his native country. And if there’s a sporting event on his tv, you can guarantee it’s volleyball.
When he moved to Canada, however, Ricardo was not involved in the game for five or six years. But when his
daughter was old enough and wanted to play, he decided it was the perfect time to get back into it. In fact, he took the opportunity to start up a new volleyball organization, the London Sharks, in 2009, and he has since turned it into a formidable club.
Today, the organization offers the Little Sharks, a developmental program, a competitive indoor program (which
runs from September to April and competes in tournaments organized by the Ontario Volleyball Association), and an academy. In 2013, Alvarez opened Supreme Courts, a full-service sporting complex that features over 19,000 square feet of VERSA playing surface.
Supreme Courts is a non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion of health and wellbeing, mainly among
youth and children under 18 years old, through their participation in multi-sports programs. It’s a world class volleyball centre, and it has certainly cemented Ricardo’s status as a true volleyball builder in London.
