Madison Wilson-Walker has overcome many obstacles in her life to excel both in athletics and academics.
Diagnosed with meningococcal disease at three years old, her illness was complicated with respiratory distress
syndrome, septicemia and gangrene. But despite undergoing a below knee amputation on both legs and partial
amputation of her fingers on her left hand, she not only learned to walk again with prosthetic legs, but she has lived a life filled with physical activity, including figure skating, horseback riding, and swimming.
In high school, Madison has competed in javelin and also the ambulatory sprint category, the first student to do
so at Lord Dorchester Secondary School. With the London Western Track Club, she earned gold medals in the para
100m, 200m and Javelin at the youth Nationals in B.C., and claimed two bronze medals (100m and Javelin) and two
fourth-place finishes (200m and 400m) at the Junior Nationals in Edmonton.
Madison has also done extensive volunteer work, completing more than 500 community service hours. She has
been accepted to the Child and Social Institutions Program at Kings University College. Her goal is to get a Masters Degree and pursue a career as a social worker. She is truly an exceptional role model for others with disabilities, and is very deserving of this scholarship. Congratulations Madison!
