Middlesex Swimming has developed its own long-term athlete development program. Swimming is a sport that
can last a lifetime with our approach. Graduating members that follow our program will stay active for life in the pool.

Life-long benefits of swimming:

1. It is a low impact exercise on the skeletal system.
2. Increases muscle tone and strength.
3. Improves flexibility.
4. Strengthens the heart.
5. Weight control.
6. Improved cholesterol.
7. Lowers risk of diabetes.
8. Lowers stress.

Middlesex long-term athlete program

• Swimmers learn to become active for life at a young age.
• Children are recommended to start with Middlesex at the early age of 6 or 7.
• Our athletes stay healthy and sharp by learning to swim and play water polo.
• Fitness, skills and commitment are learned behaviours that are formed by age 12.

Middlesex Swimming History

• Competitive swim team established in 2007 (two athletes and 4.5 hours per week at one location)
• Masters swim team established in 2011
• Water polo team established in 2015
• Western Mustang water polo partnership established in 2015
• In 2016, over 225 athletes and 50 hours per week at six locations.
