London Minor Lacrosse hit the ground running this year with preparations for the upcoming 2016 season. LMLA
has already signed up several hundred excited youngsters (boys and girls, aged 3 to 21) for their house league and travel teams. Registration continues into early March, with the season in full swing by April.
Unlike other mainstream sports, lacrosse still struggles for recognition. One would wonder why, considering it is not a new game. In fact, it’s an ancient game with Aboriginal origins. And London Minor Lacrosse has been bringing ‘the fastest game on two feet’ to the local area for over 50 years. Lacrosse is also Canada’s National Summer Sport, and for good reason! Canada holds three of the four current FIL World Championships (Men’s Field, Men’s Indoor/Box and U19 Women’s Field). According to the Canadian Lacrosse Association, lacrosse is the fastest growing sport in Canada. If that doesn’t convince you to take a closer look at our sport, maybe you’ve heard of Wayne Gretzky who said “I played lacrosse every summer, and I loved it! I think it was a big part of my success in hockey.”
In order to help grow the sport locally, LMLA holds annual Try Lacrosse sessions for those who remain unsure
about signing up. Again this year the program was well attended and resulted in a new crop of ‘laxers’ who will wear the Blue Devil logo. Young Trinity-Lee excitedly reported after her first try at lacrosse, “I didn’t like it, I loved it!” Perhaps she’ll be the next Great One!
