The 2014 season was an exciting one at London Minor Lacrosse! As we gear up for the 2015 season (details at www.londonlacrosse.com), here is a recap of last season’s success:

Field Lacrosse

Two of our field teams brought home OMFLL hardware! Back in May at spring Provincials, the U17 Jr. ‘Stangs brought home the ‘C’ championship, while our U16 ‘fall ball’ team was also Provincial ‘C’ champs in October, winning a decisive 12-3 final.

Tournaments

A definite highlight for LMLA in 2014 was the London Blue Devils Invitational Girls Box Tournament, held in June. More than 30 teams travelled to the Forest City to compete in the successful weekend! In other tournament play, our Novice 2 boys brought home the ‘D’ championship from Sarnia’s Herb Lea tournament, while our young Tyke 1 boys went undefeated to win the Six Nations Confederacy Challenge. Our Bantam 2 team was also undefeated champions, winning the Arthur Aces tournament.

Zone 7 Championships

The Blue Devil boys brought home a whole lot of Zone 7 hardware in late July. Tyke 2, Novice 2 and Bantam 2 all won their respective ‘B’ championships, which really showed the depth that LMLA is growing as a result of adding second teams at most age groups. Novice 1 brought home the ‘A’ championship, and our Intermediates also came out on top.   While these teams competed at Zones, our Peewee 1 and Bantam 1 teams attended the OLA ‘A’ Qualifiers. Even though they didn’t advance to Final Six placement, their strong showing in ‘A’ made London proud!

Provincials

Two London teams medaled at the OLA Provincial Championships in August. Our Bantam girls were thrilled to win Gold in the ‘B’ division while going undefeated. The Intermediate boys also had an exciting time in Whitby with two overtime wins in round robin play, followed by an OT loss in the championship game to bring home a very respectable Silver medal.

Nationals

London lacrosse was also represented at the Lacrosse Championships of Canada. JJ VanGoozen earned her second national Gold medal with the Team Ontario Junior Women (she also won Gold in 2011 and Silver in 2012 and 2013). Adele St. John joined the Team Ontario Bantams, who came away with a Silver medal after a one-goal loss to British Columbia. Congratulations ladies!

Junior B

The 2014 season also marked the first year that London Minor Lacrosse took the Junior B program under its wing. While last season was not without some growing pains, 2015 is shaping up to be bigger and better. With Ron Elijah at the helm as GM, exciting changes are in store! Don’t miss out on the action.
