Sixteen LAC swimmers competed on the national championship stage in July. Five of them were in Saskatoon at the Senior Nationals from July 16-19, and another eleven raced in Winnipeg at the Canadian Age Group Championships from July 23-28.

Matt Roman had LAC’s highest finish in Saskatoon, placing 4th in the 100 meter butterfly event. Also competing in Saskatoon were Vincent Cappa, Matt Kwatyra, Nathan Lethbridge and Robert Wise. In Winnipeg, LAC was led by Maggie MacNeil, who swam to two silver medal finishes, and Jessica Allen, who won a bronze medal. Other top 10 finishes were achieved by Vincent Cappa, Hayden Richardson and William Stewart, as well as the 14 & under girls relay team of Allen, Jenna Roman, MacNeil and Menley Langham, who finished 6th. Other swimmers who raced were David Armstrong, Nick Mitchell, Aitana Robinson, and Brandon Ryu.

MacNeil also represented Team East in the East-West Dual Meet, which featured Canada’s top young swimmers, and took place after the Age Group Championships. The LAC swimmer placed 1st overall in four races.

These results signalled the end of a very busy season for LAC, and the club is already gearing up for the 2014-15 season. Start-up date is September 22. For more information, visit londonaquaticclub.ca or phone 519-857-SWIM.

Laps for Lives

On Aug. 9, close to 40 swimmers took part in the LAC-sponsored Laps for Lives charity fundraiser in support of the Children’s Health Foundation and the Thames Valley Children’s Centre. Close to $9,000 was raised by swimmers (both individual and team) who swam marathon-style for 12 hours at the Thames Park Pool.
