Ally Carr and Iris Fletcher entered a tournament, but they put on a clinic. Last month, at the AAU US Midwest District MJVBA Beach Volleyball Championships in California, the duo went undefeated en route to winning a gold medal south of the border.
Carr and Fletcher are currently ranked number one in the Ontario 15U Tour in the premier division. With the gold medal in California, the girls have qualified for the AAU US Junior Olympic Games in Hermosa Beach, California.
Last month’s tournament provided the girls not only with a new level of competition, but also new conditions with which to battle. The sand was softer than the pair had been used to, and they also had to contend with extremely high winds. But the girls, who train out of the Beach Volleyball Academy, used precise ball control to give them the edge over the competition and come home with the gold.
The tournament was sponsored by Preferred Insurance, CARSTAR Collision & Glass Centres, as well as Enterprise Rent A Car.
