With the growth in volleyball popularity in Canada, the sport’s governing body has launched a program to set national standards for youth volleyball clubs. The inaugural year of the Volleyball Canada Club Accreditation program will see the Forest City Volleyball Club recognized as one of only three organizations in Canada to reach those standards.

To achieve certification, a club must demonstrate a commitment to excellence in several areas, including coach and athlete development, accountable governance, and gender balance.

In the 2013-2014 season, Forest City Volleyball Club is fielding 15 competitive boys and girls teams, and the developmental program — called “Acorn” — is at overflow capacity. The focus on long-term skill and technical development at FCVC breeds on-court successes, including many provincial and national championships, and over 200 athletes graduating to play at the college or university level (including 10 who have represented Canada).

At Forest City Volleyball Club, development is both the goal and the reward, and success is the by-product.
