In just its second year of existence, the London Volleyball Club (LVC) has become the leader in growing the sport of volleyball in London. LVC is dedicated to providing a great experience that will give young athletes skills in both volleyball and in life. LVC is the largest volleyball club in Southwestern Ontario, and is bursting at the seams as a result of its innovative approach.

“We’ve experienced overwhelming response from the community by providing a fresh philosophy with many innovative opportunities for young athletes aged 5-18,” said club president and co-founder Dave Bellehumeur. “We’re proud of our new club, and especially the 50 volunteers and 350 athletes who are participating in either developmental or competitive programs.”

More Opportunity through Innovation

Our youth development program is growing quickly, now with 150+ athletes, all under the age of 10. These non-competitive programs, including Timbits Volleyball and Feed the Fire, offer an alternative to other sports and get kids active and learning the benefits and dynamics of team sports.

LVC is the first club to offer a pre-season Volleyball Festival, which welcomed student athletes of all ages and attracted over 125 volleyball players. This late summer program was a huge success, and for a low cost of $30, the three-day event had varsity, high school and grade school participants. Soon, we will be offering adult instruction and leagues, which will be another LVC innovation for its members.

With 20 competitive teams, LVC hopes to top its 2012-13 medal count of 38, which were highlighted by a provincial championship (U18 boys) and a National bronze medal (U15 boys).

“Next year [fall of 2014], we hope to have 24 teams, two at each age group and possibly more,” said co-founder Wayne Rabley, who heads up coaching development at LVC.

A Club that gives back to its Community

At LVC, we believe that giving back to the community teaches our athletes valuable life lessons. This is why we introduced the Smile Cookie campaign, where we challenged sports teams across Canada to buy Smile cookies during the Tim Horton’s charity campaign. Teams from across Canada answered the call, and we were thrilled to see dozens of sports teams join in. Next year will be even bigger.

More community work was performed by our members via our Christmas Food Drive and assisting the Business Cares Food Drive. LVC teams, in uniform, participated in food pick ups across the city because “LVC Cares” too.

LVC Vision for the future

This club was initiated to grow the sport of volleyball in London, provide more opportunity to young athletes who hope to play at the post-secondary level, and to enhance the experience of athletes so that they can win in life as well as on the volleyball court. This vision is shared by our many local sponsors, who have generously helped LVC and its members. The LVC executive wishes to thank
