Climbing is growing, and so is the Junction!

This summer it will have been three years since we opened our climbing gym, the Junction Climbing Centre. Back then, we converted 7,000 square feet of a former steel shop into stunning climbing terrain with over 50 roped climbs and a bouldering wall. Londoners came and they loved it, and thanks to the support of our members and visitors we’re now adding another 5,000 square feet to triple the size of our bouldering, and add a larger party room, an expanded lobby, and a second training area. Our new boulder area, which is the main feature of the expansion, will be in a dedicated upstairs space with an open-air feel. It will incorporate two large overhangs and feature over 100 problems to climb.

Why is climbing growing so much? It is one of the rare sports where people of all abilities can participate at the same time. There is no feeling of being held back or surpassed by those around you with different abilities. Mixed genders and ages can all participate together. It’s also low cost compared to equipment-intensive sports like skiing or hockey. But mostly, it’s really fun!

If you haven’t been down to climb with us, there’s no need to book ahead – you can simply come down and our staff will give you an orientation to climbing (there is a waiver that needs to be filled out for all persons in the gym, and for children under 18 it must be filled out by a parent). If you’ve been before, we hope that you’ll join us this June to see how much we’ve grown!
