London Aquatic Club swimmers had a very busy summer, with 27 swimmers racing at the Provincial Championships in Etobicoke in early July, finishing 11th overall out of 90 competing clubs; the Open Water Provincials in Brampton, where Alexandra Goodreau and Carter Buck won their age divisions; the Can-Am Para-Swimming Championships in Gatineau, Quebec in mid-July; and the Summer National Championships in Edmonton in early August. The club also hosted its annual Paul Hauch Invitational outdoor swim meet at the Thames Park Pool, with 400 swimmers from across southern Ontario in attendance.
Maggie MacNeil and Devin Gotell both represented Canada – Maggie at the Junior Pan-Pacific Championships in Hawaii, and Devin at the Paralympic Games (his 3rd) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in mid-September.
With the Olympics having come and gone, we would encourage anyone who thinks they may want to give competitive a try to come out to one of our try-out sessions on either Sept. 13 or Sept. 15. If you can swim one length of the pool (25 meters), want to be strong and fit and have fun, give us a try! You don’t need to be an Olympian, but we will certainly help instill in you Olympic ideals!
