On September 18th at the OSA Soccer Stadium in Vaughan, the U13 London Alliance FC Girls defeated East York 4-1 to win the Ontario Cup Finals.  Mara Smith opened the scoring, followed by Jordyn Donnelly, Captain Bella Martins and Michela Raso.  Shayleigh Olthoff was outstanding in Net for the Mustangs.  They beat Guelph 4-0 in the first round, followed by a 5-1 win over Niagara Falls in the Quarter Finals, then beat Mississauga Supernova FC 3-2 in the Semi-Finals.  A large Sea of Purple were on hand for the Victory.  It was months of hard work, conditioning and dedication that propelled them to Champions.  On Labour day weekend, the Mustangs were finalists in the Milton Edp Cup Qualifier, playing a year up.  They have been invited to play in the New Jersey Edp Spring Cup in May of 2022.  Coach Glen Martins built a turf soccer field on a property beside their home in Byron before the pandemic. That allowed groups of five to practise.
“We tried to keep them motivated, first through Zoom and then at the field,” Martins said. “I told them the hard work will pay off eventually and it did.
“Champions are made when no one’s watching.”
